Next up for PlayDevil is this review of Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter. The Serious Sam games are a turn-of-the-century love letter to the first person shooters of the mid-nineties. They were deliberately dated when they were released and now that they've had a graphical overhaul for Xbox Live Arcade, they're practically archaic.
The outdated adage that you can't make an FPS for consoles is actually true of Serious Sam. The controls just aren't snappy enough to deal with the never ending waves of enemies you have to fend off. Overall its a frustrating experience. Unless you have a desperate need for some pretend nostalgia, I can't think why you'd choose to play this over a more modern shooter.
